As a part of our inaugural Root Awards, we invited Portlanders to submit photographs of great design found along the city’s streets and sidewalks, some of it created by professionals, but much of it made by locals simply celebrating their pride of place. We also threw in a few examples ourselves. Check out the slide show to see how many ways design, much of it homespun, brings the city to life.

Include your name and where the photos were taken, and we’ll post the best on Portland Spaces’ Design District blog.
