The Root Awards
Celebrating Portland Innovation, Creativity, and Craftsmanship
Join us in celebrating the winners of Portland Spaces' Root Awards, the magazine's first design competition. We received more than 200 submissions in 22 categories covering all manner of spaces in which we live, work, and play. Five jurors who are nationally acclaimed for their work in design, homebuilding, and journalism judged the entries based on the traditions that have long distinguished Portland architecture and building: timeless aesthetics, fine craftsmanship, and a commitment to sustainability.
As much as the Root Awards honor the best work completed in the past few years, they foreshadow even better times for Portland design ahead. Our awards gala raised over $15,000 for a new scholarship program for local students in architecture, interior design, and construction. And our long-term goal, with the help of our readers, supporters, and fellow fans of creativity is to grow the Root Awards in future years to encompass more and more of Portland's flourishing design community.
