In 1969, Georges Perec, a member of the French experimental literary group, Oulipo, wrote the novel La disparition (The Disappearance) without once using any word containing the letter “e.” Here in Portland, choreographer Mike Barber has invited choreographers to make dances on a 4’x4’ stage for his Ten Tiny Dances series. What do Georges and Mike have in common? The idea of putting constraints on the process of creating new, innovative work.

There’s a new constraint in town, and this Thursday, February 12 from 6-8 PM, OFFICE (2204 NE Alberta Street) hosts a panel discussion to talk about it: Innovation During a Recession, with design leaders from Skylab, Nike, and Laika.

Panelists will talk about how to innovate with less time, less money, and fewer resources – within their own companies and for their clients. The panel will also look at “how to keep employees inspired during these difficult times.”

The event begins at 6 PM, and includes a panel discussion, Q + A with audience, and time afterward to meet the panelists.
