We’re doing a little thing on organization in the next issue of Spaces and in the interests of “let he who is without sin cast the first stone” I’m trying to get my own house in order (where house is metaphor for ev-er-y-thing).
I have always hated the Rolodex because my experience with them has been that it’s too much of a pain to either slide business cards into little plastic sleeves (augh!!) or staple them onto the little cards or get a special hole punch (!!) to make them slot into the Rolodex. Hate.
But the fact remains that I have a lot of business cards and get more all the time. On the top shelf of the copy room I found a business card scanner, but haven’t had the free time to mess around with figuring that out…as every tool designed to make things like this quick and easy always takes almost more time than it’s worth.
Then I found this Compact Desk business card file designed by Stefan Kahn at Canoe (1136 SW Alder) and it’s made me a better man. I get a handful of cards and just throw them in…the sections are divided with these paperthin, design-y, aluminum tabs that slide onto the first card in the section. Easy. And I love how it looks.
One little note for those of you making outtathebox square business cards…I chop them off to fit, so…they kind of lose their standoutishness. Sorry.

Lisa, thanks so much for sharing this lovely rolodex and the digits on where to acquire. I’ve been on the hunt for an aesthetically pleasing rolodex for ages.
