What To My Wondering Eyes Should Appear
What? Had the Armory redecorated? Repainting the white wall on the mezzanine, often used for projection, with a graphic floral design? Spring fever in August?
Turns out that, “It was for a wedding,” according to an employee, and a little more digging turned up that the media was in fact IKEA Slatthult wall stickers, albeit copiously applied (multiple sets) with a good eye and enthusiasm. What an idea, to transform a rental space with temporary wall stickers. Oh wait, that’s what it was always about! Don’t want to or can’t repaint or wallpaper? Stickers! But I hadn’t seen them used outside of a living/office space in such a very temporary way. Clever.
Since the wall sticker craze began a couple of years ago, a number of designers/manufacturers have stepped up. IKEA’s sets are just $20. Ferm Living’s Branches and Birds available at Relish are more up our alley.
You are perhaps thinking, “Bare ruin’d choirs ” (Sonnet 73) and I’d agree…I’ve always loved the sculptural statement of the branch over the busy-ness of the leaf (or the romanticism of the flower) but too, maybe it is that I’m just feeling autumn before a single leaf turns.
