Recycled Newspaper Vases

made in the Phillipines from recycled newspaper with a metal insert

Oh, voluptuous form. And let me make a clear distinction between the clean modern curve and say, the interior of a Baroque church in Germany or a 90s blobject dishscrubber.

How does this “double belly” vase made from recycled newspaper hold water? It has a metal insert! The collection, MNL:Revitalized, is from Portland-based MNL Style. Owner Katrina Gonzalez Yuen began with the goal of connecting the US and Philipine cultures. One of the products her website carries is a first book of words in Tagolog, for example. And she has for a number of years now brought in goods from the Philipines like accessories, bags, and home decor items often made from recycled products (like juice bags or newspapers) or quickly growing and so renewable materials like abaca. And a number of the products are created by Tahanan Walang Hagdanan, which gives people with disabilities skills and work experience.

Here’s another look:

I love these. Still, metal insert or not, I don’t know if I’d put water in the vase. Even without the flowers, it’s a beautiful object.

Wow, these are great. I wish I had one.
