Casa de Milagros Wallpaper from Cavern Home

Perhaps your mom (okay, my mom) wasn’t altogether happy when she discovered your (my) crayon drawing of your (my) imaginary friend’s castle on the wall behind the sofa in the living room. And never mind about the Sharpie® smiley face smack dab in the middle of the really excellent teak trivet with the cork inset. I have felt bad about that one on every visit just as it’s time to set the table. In my defense, I had just learned to do “smiley face head with jaunty cap” in one pen stroke in imitation of the preferred “good job” symbol my 1st grade teacher applied to our worksheets.

If you are of a wabi sabi mind to embrace a little imperfection, a little artful chaos wrapped in a smart graphic package, Cavern Home introduces a new wallpaper called Casa de Milagros. Created by the children of the Casa de Milagros orphanage in the Sacred Valley of Peru, proceeds from the sale of the wallpaper go to benefit the kids at the orphanage.

The design playfully balances the strong geometric of a very hand-hewn looking Chakana, an Incan symbol, with drawings by the children inserted episodically into the negative spaces between.

Caveat, if you do have children, this wallpaper might give them IDEAS.

It’s $155/roll, available in turquoise, brown, and olive at Cavern.
