Call for Entries! Portland Spaces' Root Awards
Have you heard about our new design awards, the Root Awards? No? Let me explain …
The November/December issue of Portland Spaces will be a celebration of the best in Portland design—from architecture and interior design to contractor work and craftsmanship.

Ok, so you might be thinking, “Design Awards? I’m not a designer. Call me a design appreciator, if you will. What’s in this thing for me?”
Ah, but there’s lots in Portland Spaces’ first Root Awards for you! In fact, we’re calling out to you to submit your favorite Design In the Streets, which not unlike the best window display posts I’ve done sporadically (here and here), will feature the best design that’s not necessarily done by professionals. It’s created by your neighbors, friends, shop owners, or anonymous strangers.
Jog by a really well designed porch on your morning run? Do you always admire a favorite piece of public art? Think your backyard garden is the best? Noticed a creative window display or store vignette you think should be noticed?
Snap a picture and send it to us. Remember: Not only do the Root Awards celebrate the best in professional work, they also celebrate the best in “every person” design. So show us what YOU love about Portland’s design world, and show us soon: The contest closes mid-August.
To contribute, please send us:
- the location and address of the design
- a short description (150 words maximum)
- a digital image (JPEG, TIF)
- your name, e-mail address, and phone number
E-mail your submission to xburos[at]portlandspaces.net or mail it to Portland Spaces, Attn: Design Awards, 623 SW Oak St, Suite 300, Portland, OR, 97205.
Can’t wait to see what you submit!
