Crate and Barrel Goes Sustainable

I’m excited that Crate and Barrel has introduced a new environmental initiative. And I’m not talking about a greenwashing ploy ala Wal-Mart and its pseudo-organic foods, but an actual legit initiative. C&B has teamed up with the Tropical Forest Trust and the Forest Stewardship Council to make furniture out of FSC-certified timber and materials.

A few highlights:

The Arbor line is a sustainable line of outdoor furniture made of FSC-certified timber. It’s a classic set; a perfect fit for anyone’s deck or patio (and I love the striped outdoor textiles that can come with the cushions and/or umbrella).

Basque is an indoor line made of sustainable mango wood and has a simple European farmhouse feel.

Made of reclaimed wood, Seguro is also an indoor line that has a rustic (and unusual) wood grain that I love.

Any other bigger box stores you think are doing a good job on their sustainable initiatives? And what do you think about stores like C&B introducing these eco-friendly lines?
