Chelsea Green Guides
I’m a big fan of bite-size guides that make living lighter on the earth a little easier. Chelsea Green Publishing has come out with a series of four guides to teach just that: use less and save more.
They’re basic guides, so they’re great for friends or family that haven’t quite grasped the green lifestyle (like a few shall-remain-nameless friends I have who run the AC in the fall when it gets too hot in their house, rather than just open a window, and use, throw away and buy more water bottles rather than just drink from the tap). If you have people in your life like that, buy these guides.
The four include: Energy, Reduce Reuse Recycle, Composting and Water. Two more are coming this spring: Biking to Work and Greening Your Office. There’s nothing groundbreaking, but it’s great to have little reminders all in one place for quick reference. Or for not-so-subtle hints for the ignorant among us … trust me, not everyone in the country is as green as we are (I borrowed this link from my sister blog, The Burnside Blog. Thanks, Mike!)

These look great! Even those of us who think green often can benefit from guides like these. I especially want to check out the composting one …
For readers who are looking for other easy ideas for getting started on the path toward a greener lifestyle, I often recommend “It’s Easy Being Green” by Crissy Trask. The quick little ideas (most only a sentence or two, with boxes next to each that you can check when you’ve successfully completed the step) cover everything from transportation to cleaning to holidays—perfect for fledgling enviros.
By the way, I’m all the way in Illinois but I love reading your blog!

Hi Julie—the feeling’s mutual: your blog is quickly becoming my go-to site for helpful home improvement info.
I also am a fan of Crissy Trask’s book. Other winners: any of Danny Seo’s books.
