Bright New Fabrics

I’m thrilled to be seeing so much bold color in stores this early in the spring season. I’ll be honest, I don’t usually go into Pottery Barn, but I couldn’t help but step inside the NW 23rd location this weekend when I saw their bright, bold swaths of color. And again, I can’t lie: I normally really dislike floral prints. I’d venture to say I usually turn the other direction from any and all floral prints. But these poppy patterns grabbed me. I don’t know; maybe it was a brief lapse in judgment. Maybe I’m really craving spring. I still like them, though, in small doses. I’d do a throw pillow or two in this fabric, not an entire duvet. Small steps, right?

Oh, and I noticed in the store that all the paint colors on the walls were identified with a Benjamin Moore paint color. Looks like they’ve teamed up with the paint company for a Pottery Barn Spring 2008 palette.

And Ikea, another spot I don’t frequent too regularly (oh, the crowds) just launched three new textiles this month, one of which, Fredrika designed by Helen Trast is so bright and fun, I just wish I had a chair or two that need re-upholstering.

The other two, Fialena and Petronella, although fairly dichromatic, are equally as interesting.

But how do you feel about giant buttons on the wall??

I actually like it, but I usually like oversized, vintage-looking wall art. What about you?

Where can you find buttons that big?

They’re actually for sale at Pottery Barn

It’d be great to find something like that that’s actually vintage. Oversize vintage pieces make fabulous wall art, but since they’re popular, they are getting pretty pricey.
