Mr. G
When I first wrote a note about the opening of ShowPDX, calling out Tom Ghilarducci for his prize-winning “Green Piece” chair (above), we got an email from looking for Ghilarducci. Did we have further contact info? No.
Then last night at Jeff Lamb’s (Sienna Architecture/J Lamb Studio) presentation at White Stag, he talked pretty extensively about the Del Castello gallery/residence he’d done eight years ago. Among other details, he called out the first glass staircase approved in Portland…he said, “Tom Ghilarducci built the staircase…don’t know if he’s still around.”
Then today, in looking at the newsletter on Compressed Pattern’s website, I see that in talking about the Milepost 5 models they did they note participating designers and shops like, “Tom Ghilarducci (yes, he’s back on the scene making furniture again!).”
What else? Well once upon a time, Ghilarducci did a screening room table designed by Allied Works Architecture for the Wieden + Kennedy project.
So who doesn’t love a little mystery? Looks like one who once was is. We have our eyes and ears open.

Ghilarducci Studios IS back. A good sign for Portland design.
