Somewhere, Andrea Spella is smiling

Andrea Spella’s eponymous coffee cart consistently serves some of the best espresso in the downtown core. You can find Mr. Spella Monday through Friday on the corner of Ninth Avenue and Alder Street. He is usually smiling. Ardent Eastsiders who refuse to cross the river no longer have to in order to enjoy Mr. Spella’s hand-roasted coffee. Try it along side Chocolatier Sarah Hart’s confections at Alma Chocolate at 140 NE 28th Avenue, or among highly addictive cookies and cupcakes at the recently debuted Sugar Cube food cart, a mobile bakery just four carts north or Mr. Spella’s outpost.

Spella Caffe has been a favorite outpost of the foodie set for months, but its prime proximity to Sugar Cube and collaboration with my favorite Eastside chocolate shop is a reason to celebrate. Like you needed more reasons to love Portland.

Are you the same Mike Thelin who wrote the Eat Me column?

That was me, and I miss the free meals. To my knowledge, there’s only one other Mike Thelin in PDX, and he sells Corvettes on 92nd and Stark. He makes more money than I do.
