The Design Commission meets today SW 4th Ave. 1:30 pm) to review the first of several proposed South Waterfront towers by California-based developer Prometheus. The first, a handsome 31-story tower by Portland’s Ankrom Moisan.

Early feedback showed concern about the diversity of height in South Waterfront. The current cap of 325 feet has been reached by two existing SOWA towers: The John Ross and 3720, and is proposed for Block 45 and The Mirabella, another 310-story tower designed by Portland’s Ankrom Moisan. Can the commission prevent a wall of 300 footers? Stay tuned.

Umm…South Waterfront is starting too look like a wall of development. There needs to be taller buildings, and some shorter ones as well.

Handsome + Ankrom Moisan is often incongruous. I’m skeptical. Let’s see some imagery.

Are we really sure with global warming that all this development next to the waterfront, won’t be prone to flooding? Are builders putting in underground garages? Won’t those get flooded out first?

Hi Ann. If that happens, we’re all screwed…not just SOWA. I’m going to go plant a tree right now.

It’s interesting to see the towers still going up in this economy. Mike- can you talk more about who is buying all this real estate? Have there been changes in the programming?
