Hotel Cornelius

The Portland Business Journal reports that renovations of the run-down Hotel Cornelius will commence this summer. Tom Moyer’s TMT development will renovate the boarded-up brick building into a 66-room boutique hotel with a rooftop deck and a street-level restaurant and bar. The Cornelius anchors the corner of Alder Street and Park Avenue, just one block from where TMT will soon break ground on Park Avenue West, which at 515 feet, will replace the KOIN Tower as the third tallest building in Portland.

The hotel’s pending renovation has been known for months, but until now, a timeline has not been set. The Church of Scientology, plans its own renovation of an existing building on the same block.

There’s a lot going on in the mid-town park blocks. I wonder how long it will be before the giant full-block parking lot at Washington, Alder, 9th, and 10th will be redeveloped. There’s not way that will stay a parking lot for much longer with so much happening in the neighborhood.

Maybe we should rename the south park blocks as TVA Alley. I’m sure Bob Thompson’s ego would love it.

That’s funny liar! At least this time Moyer isn’t using TVA.

Mike: You didn’t mentioned that it was Tom Moyer who sold that building to the Scientologists. By the way, nice link to Risky Business. I forgot about that scene.

Mark, actually Moyer is using TVA, with a historic consultant…

“Peter Meijer Architect LLC will serve as historic consultant to TVA.”

Maybe TVA should be using Richard Meier, instead of Peter Meijer, as a consultant…
