Opportunities with Portland Spaces

Writer Inquiries and Guidelines

Portland Spaces magazine joins the ranks of SagaCity Media, Inc publications, including Portland Monthly and Seattle Metropolitan, as one of the best-written magazines in the country. We take as our subject all the spaces in our lives, from home to work to city, with a particular focus on design, gardening, architecture, sustainability, home improvement and entertaining. Our magazine and website inform, provoke and celebrate the city of Portland, as well as the people and spaces that have made Portland into one of the most distinct, creative and dynamic places in the country. We welcome proposals from freelance writers to contribute to future issues of Portland Spaces.

Internships

Portland Spaces is a new design and city life magazine about all the places we call home. We are looking for bright, dedicated interns to work in our editorial department.

As a SagaCity Media publication, along with Portland Monthly magazine, we have a lot to offer. We train, but we also expect our interns to hit the ground running. Duties include fact checking written materials, assisting editors with story research and reporting, and writing short department articles. We prefer journalism or communications students, or students who are active with campus publications and interested in a career in journalism.

Successful candidates will be detail-oriented, responsible, well-read, curious and knowledgeable about the city.

We have three internship seasons: January-April, May-August and September-December.

The unpaid position, for college credit, requires a minimum commitment of 15-20 hours per week. We prefer 3-4 hour stints, 5 days a week, but we can be flexible with academic schedules.
